American Airlines has announced plans to launch two new flagship Lounges in Dallas and Chicago this spring. The lounges will reopen on April 20th, 2019 which marks the day American first flew into both cities.

American Airlines plans to reopen its flagship lounges in Dallas and Chicago in the spring.

American Airlines’ Flagship business class lounges in New York JFK, Miami, and Los Angeles have reopened. At JFK and Miami, Flagship First Dining has reopened for long-haul first-class travelers. The lounges in Dallas and Chicago, on the other hand, are still closed.

Fortunately, American Airlines is currently talking about a reopening date. The airline anticipates reopening the Dallas – Fort Worth Flagship Lounge and Flagship First Dining this spring, as well as the Chicago O’Hare Flagship Lounge (which does not have a First Dining area despite being planned for one).

The Flagship lounge and Flagship First Dining in Dallas-Fort Worth were scheduled to debut considerably sooner. Hiring issues have been one of the issues that have arisen.

The American Arrivals Lounge at Heathrow Airport in London has also reopened. Their First Dining in Los Angeles will remain closed among upscale international-style clubs. Los Angeles is no longer American’s Asia base, and the airline aims to provide limited long-haul service from there to destinations such as Sydney, Tokyo, and London.

Currently, the following people have access to Flagship lounges:

  • Business and first class passengers flying on a oneworld airline to Asia, Australia or New Zealand; Europe; South America (except Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Suriname, and Venezuela); and business and first class passengers flying premium transcon routes (New York – Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as certain Miami and Boston – Los Angeles flights and New York JFK – Orange County).
  • Passengers in business class on long-haul Hawaii flights
  • Platinum and MVP Gold members of American Airlines and Alaska MVP Gold members of Alaska Airlines who are travelling to one of these qualified locations on a oneworld carrier are eligible.
  • Members of the oneworld sapphire and emerald programs who are going on any oneworld flight but American AAdvantage or Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan (including American and Alaska domestic flights)
  • ConciergeKey members going domestically on a oneworld airline, such as American or Alaska, are eligible for a discount.

Access to Flagship First Dining is restricted to:

  • Passengers traveling American Airlines’ three-cabin first class to Asia, Australia, Europe, or South America, or between New York and Los Angeles and San Francisco.
  • To oneworld partners who have paid for access (such as British Airways for their first class passengers in some locations) and Concierge Key members who have been given a limited number of passes, as well as those who have been offered a buy-in option or who have purchased access through American’s Five Star premium ground service.

Invitations to Concierge Key Flagship First Dining are set to expire in April. Since there hasn’t been much business travel or Asia travel, and the DFW and Los Angeles First Dining sites aren’t even open yet, I’m guessing they’ll extend or replace these invites, but the airline has been silent on the subject so far.

Passengers who pay in advance will now be able to join in on the fun.
