Four passengers were killed when a small plane crashed into the water near Seward, Alaska on Friday. The fifth passenger was rescued and is in stable condition at an Anchorage hospital.
The cruise line news is a story that talks about the five cruise passengers who were killed in an Alaska plane crash.
A tourist floatplane crashed in southeast Alaska on Thursday, killing the pilot and all five passengers. The five victims were all passengers on the Nieuw Amsterdam, a Holland America Line ship.
On Twitter, Holland America Line stated, “We can confirm that a float aircraft carrying five passengers from Nieuw Amsterdam was involved in an accident near Ketchikan, and there are no survivors.”
“It was not a Holland America Line trip. It was an independent tour. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims’ families and friends.”
When the floatplane went missing Thursday morning, Alaska State Troopers and the Coast Guard launched a search, according to CNN. First responders were directed to the accident scene by an emergency radio signal in Ketchikan, near Misty Fjords National Monument, a popular destination for flightseeing excursions.
The Coast Guard stated in a statement that an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Sitka discovered the wreckage at 2:37 p.m. and dropped two rescue swimmers who reported no survivors.

Southeast Aviation, a tourist business, operated the de Havilland Beaver floatplane, according to officials. The aircraft was flying in mist and light rain, with moderate winds and two-mile visibility, according to the Coast Guard.
The names of those killed in the accident were not published right away.
Guests on board the Nieuw Amsterdam used social media to express their grief. “I’m also on this sailing,” a Twitter user called Belle commented. “The Captain did an excellent job with the announcements. It’s terrible, and I’m heartbroken about the loss.”
“My husband and I are presently on this trip and our hearts are heavy,” Maile Nero Reynon posted on Facebook. We don’t know the individuals who died today, but it seemed as if we had left/lost a member of our family in Ketchikan… During this terrible time, may their family and friends be blessed with love, strength, and peace.”

Hundreds of other cruise passengers expressed their condolences on social media. Miriam Criens posted on the Holland America Line Fans Facebook group:
“My condolences to the families and friends of the cruisers who perished on August 5th on their trip. Also, best wishes to the other passengers and staff on board the Nieuw Amsterdam.”
Following the pandemic closure, the sad event happened on just the second Holland America Line Alaska trip.
